If you searched “design pickle alternative reddit”, you want real users, not vendor listicles. So we read 16 Reddit threads from 2017 to 2026 where people discuss Design Pickle and the services they moved to. Here's what they say, in their words, with a link to every comment.
One disclosure first. Cluma is a design subscription service too, so we have a stake. We quote positive Design Pickle comments as well as negative ones, and we point out where a comment looks like self-promotion.
How we read the threads
- 16 threads across r/graphic_design, r/marketing, r/digital_marketing, r/agency, r/advertising, r/smallbusiness, r/Entrepreneur, r/AmazonMerch, r/indiebiz, r/GraphicDesigning and three brand-named subreddits. The full list is in the references.
- Short excerpts only, copied exactly, typos included. Usernames are left out on purpose.
- Old comments are dated. Prices and plans quoted from 2017 to 2020 are history, not today's offer.
Theme 1: quality depends on the designer and the brief
This is the loudest theme. Users describe a wide range.
“To say their work was garbage is an understatement. Lots of it looked like power point templates”
r/advertising, 14 Jan 2023. Comment [1]
“8/10 times the design come back mediocre to the point where I'll get my in-house designer to redo it.”
r/marketing, 4 Mar 2020. Comment [7]
Others are positive:
“for my agency, I've had the best experience with Design Pickle.”
r/PenjiDiscussion, 4 Dec 2025. Comment [14]
“If I had to rate them, I would say 7 out of 10.”
r/AmazonMerch, 29 Mar 2019. Thread [10]
The pattern that ties both sides together: results track the brief and the person managing it.
“it's good if you have a good creative director. If you leave it up to them it's mediocre at best work.”
r/agency, 25 Oct 2024. Comment [4]
“it's hard to get the right design if you don't already know what you want.”
r/penji, 11 Jun 2026. Comment [13]
Theme 2: designer churn and backups
Many users like their main designer and struggle with the cover.
“We had a solid one but when the back up was needed it was always a coin flip.”
r/agency, 26 Oct 2024. Comment [4]
“Often my regular designer would disappear and others would be filling in.”
r/AmazonMerch, 29 Mar 2019. Comment [10]
Swapping can also help. One user in the same thread wrote: “Second designer was WAY... WAY... better.” (comment, 30 Mar 2019). Another wanted the opposite: “Design pickle I kept getting the same bad person over and over” (r/marketing, 1 Mar 2020).
One thread also holds posts from people who say they worked at Design Pickle and describe tight daily time per client. These are individual, unverified claims (r/graphic_design, 2023 to 2025) [6].
Theme 3: speed and what “unlimited” means
A 2019 user tested the limits:
“At Max you will get two tasks done a day Monday-Friday.”
r/digital_marketing, 12 May 2019. Comment [16]
That's seven years old, so check today's plan. The wider point holds across services. A user of another provider summed it up:
“It's unlimited requests, not unlimited simultaneous work.”
r/GraphicDesigning, 12 Nov 2025. Comment [12]
Theme 4: price
Recent comments call Design Pickle expensive rather than cheap.
“DP just seems too expensive”
r/designpickle, 9 Jun 2026. Comment [2]
“Pricing is close enough that it's not the deciding factor.”
r/penji, 10 Jun 2026, comparing Penji and Design Pickle. Thread [13]
For context: on 24 October 2026, Design Pickle listed no plan prices. Plans are quoted on a sales call and billed quarterly or annually, and its own blog (29 May 2026) puts the annual plan at $1,279 a month and up. The $350 to $500 figures in older threads are out of date. Design Pickle pricing sits next to Cluma's on our compare page, with the date of every figure.
Superside comes up as the premium option, with mixed views on value. “Superside requires a one-year minimum purchase... ooff.” (r/graphic_design, 20 Sep 2024). Another user works with a team they call “very nice, professional and super responsive”, then adds “I don't think the price is worth it.” (r/graphic_design, 1 Sep 2023) [6].
A word on fake recommendations
Read these threads with care. Users call it out themselves:
“Two comments on a 3 year old post about DolfinContent within 24 hours. Both from brand new accounts with no karma.”
r/digital_marketing, 4 Feb 2025. Comment [5]
We also saw the same few accounts recommend one service across several old threads, comments with hidden characters inside brand names, and three brand-named subreddits. Founders and staff of Design Pickle, Penji, Kapa99, Draftss and Andelo posted too, most of them openly. Weigh repeat praise from one account as one voice.
Alternatives Redditors mention
Counted across the 16 threads we read. “Comments” means comments or posts naming the service as something people used, tried or recommend. Self-promotion by a service's own staff is noted.
| Alternative | Comments | Threads | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flocksy | 20 | 13 | Most named. Praised for copy and video in one plan. Several praises come from the same few accounts. |
| Superside | 12 | 5 | Discussed as the premium option. Mixed on value, minimum terms. |
| ManyPixels | 9 | 5 | Often “haven't used them myself”. |
| Penji | 8 | 6 | Praised for collaboration and ease. One co-founder reply. |
| Hiring a freelancer directly | 4 | 3 | Suggested as cheaper by some. Fiverr and Upwork get poor reviews. |
| Kimp | 3 | 2 | Named in lists, no first-hand reviews. |
| Delesign | 2 | 2 | Same account both times. |
| Awesomic | 2 | 2 | Named in lists. |
| Moonb | 2 | 2 | For motion and video. |
| DesignBees | 2 | 1 | Two first-hand users. |
| BrandStrong | 2 | 2 | One first-hand user (2021). |
| Designity | 1 | 1 | For a weekly creative director. |
| Others (onbrand.studio, Buzzcube, DolFinContent, getads.co, Creatopy) | 1 each | 1 each | DolFinContent posts flagged as fake by the thread starter. |
Draftss, Andelo and Kapa99 appear only in posts by their own founders or staff, so they're left out of the counts.
Where Cluma fits, honestly
Cluma isn't the answer for every thread above. If you need a steady flow of simple social graphics at the lowest monthly cost, a graphics-first queue may suit you better.
Cluma is built for SaaS teams that keep running into the issues Redditors describe:
- Creative direction is included. A senior designer owns direction and signs off on every deliverable, so you're not the creative director by default.
- One seat per discipline. Nine modules, from brand and websites to product UI, ads and decks. Each works like a senior-led designer seat for one discipline, and you can add or remove modules month to month.
- Same honest limit. One request in progress per module, unlimited requests in the queue. Need two things moving at once? Add a second module.
- Published prices. $2,995 to $4,995 per module a month, on pricing. 7-day trial. First month paid in full, then pause or cancel anytime, no cancellation fee.
- Pace by task size. Everyday tasks land in about 48 hours. Bigger projects move milestone by milestone, with progress about every 48 hours.
- Design only. You get dev-ready files. Your team builds.

FAQ
What do Redditors say about Design Pickle?
Opinions are split. Common complaints are uneven quality, weak backup designers and limited daily output. Positive comments credit a good assigned designer and easy setup when you already know what you want.
What is the most recommended Design Pickle alternative on Reddit?
Flocksy is named most often in the threads we read, followed by Superside, ManyPixels and Penji. Several Flocksy recommendations come from the same few accounts, so treat the count with care.
Is any design subscription truly unlimited?
Usually unlimited requests, not unlimited parallel work. Most services, Cluma included, work on one request at a time per plan or module, with the rest in a queue.
How is Cluma different from Design Pickle?
Cluma is a modular design subscription for SaaS teams with published prices, from $2,995 to $4,995 per module a month. A senior designer owns direction on every deliverable. Design Pickle is graphics-first and, as of 24 October 2026, quotes plans on a sales call.
